Tire Chains

I've been wondering how do people drive safely in snowy states. I live here in Arizona and haven't seen snow or experience being in a snow. All I know is that when it rains, the roads get slippery and it's not so safe to drive. What more when it's snowing? But my question is answered when I asked my husband. He used to live in Chicago when he was a child with his parents and siblings so he knows. He told me that people put tire chains that are also called snow chains on their vehicle tires. When there are chains affixed to the tires, it will limit the speed. I can't imagine driving in a snow without chains. It must be like driving and knowing that you''ll gonna have an accident soon.
